You’ve heard it all before: The Internet is booming, and with it the IT industry. However, all the hype doesn’t necessarily tell you what you want to know: what kind of a future you will have with an information technology degree. Here are five jobs you can get with an IT degree.

Technical Support: Technical support personnel provide assistance with confusing or complicated technical systems. The customer might need help with their personal computer, or their business’s computer network. Technical support’s job is to diagnose the problem, usually over the phone or the Internet via an instant messenger program, and explain to the customer how to troubleshoot the problem step-by-step.

Because technical support personnel work remotely to diagnose and fix computer and software glitches, often with frustrated or irritable customers, they need to be highly qualified for the job. An information technology degree ensures that you know computer systems well enough to correctly diagnose the problem, saving time and further frustration on the customer’s part.

Keep in mind that technical support personnel also need to be good with people. You will need patience for dealing with impatient, frustrated customers, as well as the ability to translate your technical knowledge into terms the average customer will understand.  Read more...

Such was the challenge for PEPPO Fashions Group, an apparel distributor in Thailand, which manages labels such as Guess, Guess Baby/Kids, Guess Accessory Stores, Mango, Marciano and Castro. It has 12 standalone retail outlets and presence in 50 department store consignments in the country.

According to Palakorn Khisalang, IT Manager for the Group, department stores constantly refresh their layouts, and require tenants like PEPPO to move within the building several times a year.

In a fiercely competitive auto industry, Mazda North America depends on IT to inject the same “Zoom-Zoom” that characterizes their cars into its business operations. As Mazda’s IT initiatives such as increasing field managers’ effectiveness grew, so did its server count – from 150 to nearly 300. “With a one-application-per-server approach and pressure to heighten system availability, all we could see was server sprawl. Complexity rose to the point where our IT staff was spending most of its time just maintaining those servers,” says Jim DiMarzo, CIO of North America Operations. Saskatoon Health Region To Present on Implementing Information Practices that Support Legislative Requirements in Access and Privacy at the 2008 Government & Health Technologies Conference and Expo

2008 – Toronto, Canada – Jayden Stephens, Privacy Officer, Saskatoon Health Region will present a Case Study on implementing information practices that support legislative requirements in access and privacy at the 2008 Government & Health Technologies Conference and Expo. The conference will be hosted on April 15 – 16, 2008 at the Design Exchange in Toronto Ontario.

During this interactive presentation, Jayden Stevens, Privacy Officer will detail the steps taken at Saskatoon Health Region to establish and roll out a privacy and access program to 11,500 employees in over 80 facilities within his jurisdiction. Responsible for overseeing the application of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act in addition to the Health Information Protection Act to health facilities with the Saskatoon region, he will offer insight into best practices for enforcing legislative compliance to each of these Acts.

Internet technology has brought about a revolution in the mindset of people from all categories of life, and is now set to take over the business and trading communities as well!

(b) What about shopping? This is the greatest boon offered by the World Web. Be it fitness gear, clothes, books, DVDs, MP3 digital player–anything, everything can be purchased online from the comfort of your own home. You pay online, and everything is shipped out to your residence.

The music consumers entered a new era in the 1980s, when they were first introduced to the digital medium of CDs. On the motion picture side, the home consumers were glued to the VHS (video home system) tape till the 1980s. This was also non-digital but gradually the digital VCDs replaced the VHS in the late 1980s.

Movie companies were not happy with the CDs that were available and they worked on various digital video formats to develop a product that would give improved visual and audio quality to the home consumers. The result was the development of the DVD. The DVD technology originated in the early 1990s and in no time entertainment giants like Time-Warner and Sony realized its potential and agreed to promote the new high quality technology.

DVD stands for digital versatile disc although it is popularly referred to as Digital Video Disc due to the popularity of the video industry.
