The Beginning Of The End For Yahoo?

Posted by: Julie Johnson  :  Category: Computer & Internet

These days Yahoo is fighting to maintain its reputation as one of the tech leaders on the web. For many years, this company has bounced back and forth not sure whether to focus on the technical aspects or the media aspects of their internet business, they have recently sold off some of their media tools to Microsoft. And while to some that this may seem like the company is giving up the ghost, they have truly just decided to put their main focus on the technical aspects of their company.

For a while it seemed lime Microsoft may even take over Yahoo. Microsoft did make an offer to Yahoo to acquire the company, but Yahoo eventually refused. Now Yahoo is hoping that by returning their focus to improving their search engine, they can help restore the reputation of the company as well.

Yahoo has publicly stated that they are now working on developing new tools, that will provide ground breaking functionality for their users. Yahoo is also focused on a re-design of their search engine, hoping that they will be able to provide the most relevant search results of any of the major search engines available today. The problem with focusing on improving their search engine, though, is that Microsoft and Google are also continuing to improve their search engine, to achieve the same results.

When Yahoo was at the height of their popularity amongst internet users, it was their search engine that was the driving force behind that popularity, and the company’s success. Yahoo is looking to replicate this success by completely changing the way that search engine return results to their users. Yahoo hopes these improvements will allow them to provide the most relevant results of all of the search engines. One problem with this strategy, though, is that Microsoft and Google are continuously working on improving their search engine results as well.

Yahoo has a long road ahead of them. It will be difficult to cut into the market share currently held by Google and Microsoft, and the longer it takes for Yahoo to make their search engine changes, the more difficult this task will become. Yahoo has big plans to once again be one of the major players when it comes to internet searching and other tools, but whether or not they can achieve these goals remains to be seen.
